Building J2EE Web Applications using Java Servlets / JSPs

Java Servlets and JavaServer Pages are essential server-side Java technologies for building web applications. Servlets are programs that run on a web server; they can respond to client requests and create dynamic content. JavaServer Pages are useful for dividing work between Java developers and HTML designers. This course is a comprehensive tutorial in the design and programming of servlets and JSPs. Students will learn about the capabilities of servlets, their advantages over CGI, servlet architecture, and session management. They will learn about JSP syntax, deployment, and application models, how to use Java as a scripting language, and how to build robust and capable web applications using Servlets and JSP. Upon completion of this workshop, they will be able to understand the design and development of web applications using Servlets and JSP, Understand HTTP requests, responses and methods. Develop Servlets to process HTML forms and generate dynamic content. Make Servlets cooperate and share data. Store and process session information. Implement Servlet Security. Understand and create JavaServer Pages (JSPs). Develop web applications with the ability to develop web application content using either Servlets or JSPs. Link Servlets and JSPs. Use Java as a scripting language in JSPs. Embed and use JavaBeans in a JSP. Develop and use simple to advanced custom tagsThroughout the course, students will be led through a series of progressively advanced topics, where each topic consists of lecture, group discussion, comprehensive hands-on lab exercises, and lab review. Because these lessons, labs and projects are presented in a building block fashion, students will gain a solid understanding of not only the core concepts, but also of the way all pieces fit together in a complete application. At the end of each lesson, developers will be tested with a set of review questions to ensure that he/she has fully understood that topic.
