Beschrijving

Our MBA programme exposes students to a balanced blend of management theory and practice which should benefit them for the rest of their working lives. A variety of teaching methods are used, including formal lectures, tutorials and study group work. Pre-reading is an essential element of study and is complemented with business simulations, presentations and written assignments.

The Learning Framework

  • Pre-reading is essential and is assigned before each module, in the form of a syllabus and prepared reading material. Pre-reading is an excellent way of preparing for the module, ensuring you get the very most out of the learning experience.
  • Lectures address the theoretical basis, principles and practice of management. They provide the frame-work required to understand organisational issues and problems and focus on the inter-disciplinary relationship between different areas of management.
  • Study Groups mean team work. During the study group sessions you will discuss course literature, prepare and present cases, papers and projects. The sessions act as a forum for evaluating academic and business issues through peer interaction, and are thus an excellent opportunity to develop presentation, analysis and appraisal skills. You will also have the opportunity to network with your fellow group members.

Objectives

  • Our full-time MBA will give you the opportunity to develop strategic vision and sound analytical skills.
  • You will be shown how to master concepts and models and how to apply them to your work situation.
  • We emphasise the importance of innovation in business thinking, managing change and exploring how to deal with uncertainty.
  • In your work life you will be expected to find workable solutions to management problems, create and manage effective teams and to develop your own leadership style, and maybe start your own business.
  • We place great emphasis on supporting the personal development goals of all our students. You are encouraged to develop your leadership capabilities but also to grow as an individual.
  • We offer you the opportunity to improve your skills by giving you help with skills training.
  • We offer presentation coaching, support with study and research skills and writing skills as part of our programme.
  • We offer you help with identifying your strengths and weaknesses and using this knowledge to improve your self-awareness.
  • We then help you to examine your leadership style; looking closely at what makes you a good or better manager.

Curriculum

At TiasNimbas we have worked hard to ensure our MBA’s are interactive and encourage co-operation between participants. We therefore mix the necessary lectures for direct knowledge transfer with interactive study group work.

  • September to September study span.
  • Introduction week where you meet fellow students, faculty, and your programme manager.
  • We require students to prepare before classes; out of classroom study is also expected. (You should expect to commit up to six days a week; eight hours a day divided between classroom time, study group time and preparation.)
  • Study trip to Brussels, Belgium exploring the impact of the European Union on decision making. Our European week will give you insights into the workings of the European institutions and allow you to meet and hear European experts talk on topics affecting business.
  • Each module is held over four days including elective modules.
  • Classes/examinations may be held on Saturday and occasionally Sunday.
  • Each class day includes lectures and study group discussions.
  • Student presentations form an important part of lectures.
  • You will be expected to complete an in-company management project.

  • Personal Development Portfolio – This module runs throughout the entire taught phase of the programme and is based on independent reflective learning. Students have the flexibility to choose three specific skill areas in which they would like to develop themselves and a variety of workshops are given to facilitate this personal skills improvement. Entrepreneurship is a desirable trait of managers, not only for new and small firms, but also for older and larger firms that wish to rejuvinate their business and/or their product lines.
  • Innovation - The module treats innovation as a general management challenge, whose solutions requires skill and understanding in problems related to strategy, finance, organization, finding markets, and managing technology. We examine  strategic issues related to patterns of technological change and their  impacts, planning for technological transitions, ways for capturing economic benefits from innovation, strategic partnerships, and planning of innovation projects over time.
  • Management Project

MBA participants complete their studies with a master’s thesis (Management Project). This thesis is based on a hands-on project within a company or organisation, and reflects the knowledge and skills obtained during their studies at TiasNimbas. The Management Project represents the major, applied, problem-solving element of the MBA programme and involves practical research. The participant tackles an issue or problem of direct concern to the company or organisation and submits a final report to TiasNimbas for assessment. A company may also request the participant to formally present his or her findings to the Board of Directors of the host company. TiasNimbas fully supports and encourages this additional service. The Management Project can be taken at any company or organisation, in any country. As the project is an integral part of the MBA studies, no additional visa or residence permit are required. However, the hiring company will have to obtain the required documents for employing the student.
