The Fundamentals course is an introduction to Obeya and the first course of the Obeya certification curriculum. With a focus on basic knowledge about Obeya, this course can be taken stand-alone and is recommended for anyone seeking an understanding of the essential principles and set-up of Obeya, even if it is not your goal to become an Obeya practitioner yourself.

What is Obeya?

Obeya is a Japanese word for "big room" or "war room". It's a system, a concept, a philosophy, defined by a particular set of ideas (called the Obeya Principles) used for inclusive and sustainable decision-making.

An Obeya is a physical or digital workspace where strategy meets execution. Typical about Obeya is that it guides both behavior as well as a work environment design. It creates a so-called “single source of truth”.

Obeya helps answer the following questions:

• Is everyone working on the same things?
• Are we meeting delivery/deadlines?
• Do our decisions reach everyone?
• Are we looking at the right information?
