Faculty

Breanndán Ó Nualláin teaches Machine Learning and Data Science at the University of Amsterdam. He has special responsibility for the development of computing throughout the curriculum at Amsterdam University College, and is a member of their AI task force. With more than 30 years of experience and over 1,200 academic citations, he brings a deep understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning to his teaching.

Breanndán previously worked at the Informatics Institute of the University of Amsterdam, collaborating with scientists from a range of disciplines to build large-scale computer systems for solving modelling problems in areas as diverse as the virology of influenza, computational astrophysics and groundwater hydrology.

Maarten de Borst is a Strategy Consultant at Numbers, a boutique advisory firm specializing in the practical application of technology within the financial sector. After seven years in various roles at ING, ABN Amro, and Moneyou, Maarten was captivated in 2016 by the emerging world of crypto and blockchain technology. Recognizing the need for greater practical applicability of technology within organizations, he went on to found Numbers.

In addition to his advisory work, Maarten is the author of Building Digital Trust (Noordhoff Business), and an advisor on Cyber & Financial Crime with the Regional Investigation Service of the Amsterdam Police Unit. He is also an active speaker on the intersection of technology and finance. 

Maarten graduated cum laude from Erasmus University Rotterdam with a Master’s degree in Financial Economics.
