Content of the course

Module 1: Context for business process modelling

This module explains why we model business processes and different approaches to process modelling. The hierarchy of business processes – organisation, process and task levels – are explained.

Module 2: Organisational model of processes

This module explains the strategic context for business processes, relationships between processes, including those at the same level and between levels of hierarchy. Delegates build an organisational view of processes for a scenario. Delivering value to customers and
the value proposition are discussed.

Module 3: Modelling the business processes

This module covers selected business process modelling techniques explaining the notation –actors, tasks, process flows, decisions. The underlying business rules are discussed as well as outcomes and triggers of those processes. Finally, business process measures are discussed.

Module 4: Documenting tasks

This module teaches how to identify tasks – one person, one place, one time and how to document steps, business rules and performance measures to complete the tasks.

Module 5: Evaluating and improving the business processes

This module teaches how to identify problems with the as-is business processes, how to analyse the process flow, handoffs and tasks. This module also focuses on staff  performance issues and modelling the to-be business processes.

Module 6: Transition

This module discusses the integration of business process modelling and requirements definition. It covers the implementation issues like selecting the implementation approach – pilot run, direct changeover, parallel, organisational design, role definition, staff development and managing change implementation.

During the course delegates work with a scenario which covers all the aspects of the syllabus, to allow delegates to practise the framework and its techniques.
