Sybase Unwired Platform Administration

Goals

• Understand the mobility terminology, concepts, security and architectures
• Familiarize yourself with the Sybase Unwired Platform (SUP)
• Install and configure Enterprise Server and Sybase Relay Server
• Learn to deploy Mobile Business Objects (MBO) from a development to a production environment
• Learn how to deploy and manage Mobile Business Applications
• Create and configure User Devices for native applications and workflows
• Administer Unwired Server security features such as users, roles, usage of encryption and authentication on listeners, etc.
• Set up domains, security configurations, and make decisions as to security provider options
• Familiarize yourself with administering a mobile workflow application requiring server-side features and functionality
• Troubleshoot environment

Prerequisites

• good knowledge of Sybase's mobility architecture
• Familiarity with Mobility architectures and infrastructures

• High-level understanding of database and Internet technologies such as REST Services, Web Services, ERP systems, Encryption and authentication methods, Enterprise Data Servers
• Some SQL language as well as application server experience helpful

Notes

• Learn to install, configure, and perform additional setup and configuration tasks to successfully design, implement and secure a real- world Sybase Unwired Enterprise Server environment. After installation and configuration of key components, explore the administration functions involved in the implementation of a single-and multi-node clustered environment. Learn the necessary daily activities of managing the environment and securing mobile device applications using the Sybase Control Center. Other topics include: set up and configure Sybase Relay Server, implement security features, learn backup and restore techniques and best practices, apply performance tuning recommendations, learn native and workflow application deployment methods, perform trouble- shooting techniques, review metrics to better monitor the server.
• There will be an introductory level discussion on the use of Afaria as the device deployment solution. Students who require complete Afaria training should attend the “EDB491: Afaria System Administration” course.
• This course will not discuss administration specific to other Unwired Platform solutions such as Sybase Mobile Workflow for SAP Business Suite and Sybase Mobile Sales for SAP CRM.
